Adding a Braintree Connection

Adding a Braintree connection to your BR-DGE retail channel requires you to collect some information for us to add to your BR-DGE retail channels. This article details the information BR-DGE requires, and how you can locate it.


Braintree Account

If you don't already have a Braintree Account then you will need to create one with Braintree


BR-DGE requires the following information to allow you to route payments to Braintree through our platform:


  • Merchant Id
  • Merchant Account Id
  • Merchant Account Currency
  • Whether you have enabled a Custom field Trace Id
  • Public Key
  • Private Key
  • Tokenization Key


Please note that some of these details are sensitive. We ask you to handle these with care.


  • How to locate your Merchant Id?
  • Log into the Braintree Account.
  • Click on settings (gear symbol) > Business.
  • Your Merchant Id can be found in the Merchant Id section.


  • How to locate your Merchant Account Id?
  • Log into the Braintree Account.
  • Click on settings (gear symbol) > Business.
  • Your Merchant Account Id can be found in the Merchant Account Id column.


  • How to confirm your Merchant Account Currency?
  • Log into the Braintree Account.
  • Click on settings (gear symbol) > Business.
  • Confirm the Currency shown here.


  • How to enable Custom field Trace Id
    Enabling this field allows internal BR-DGE trace id information to be added to payments in the Braintree Portal. This is an optional setting but if enabled, it can assist in troubleshooting and debugging any issues with payments made through the BR-DGE system and is therefore recommended to be switched on.
  • Log into the Braintree Account.
  • Click on settings (gear symbol) > Processing.
  • Scroll to the Transactions section and select Custom Fields > Options.
  • Click the + Add button.
  • Set Display Name to Trace ID.
  • Set API Name to trace_id.
  • Select the Store and Pass Back option.
  • Click the Save button.


  • How to locate your Public Key and Private Key?
  • Log into the Braintree Account.
  • Click on settings (gear symbol) > API. 
  • Under API Keys > Private Key select View.
  • If no API Keys are listed click on Generate New API Key.
  • Public Key value is found under Public Key section.
  • Private Key value is found under Private Key section.
  • Ensure the Public Key and Private Key values are from the same pair (found on the same line).


  • How to locate your Tokenization Key?
  • Log into the Braintree Account.
  • Click on settings (gear symbol) > API. 
  • Under Tokenization Keys the Tokenization Key value is found under the Key column.
  • If no Tokenization Keys are listed click on Generate New Tokenization Key.
